The performances at TrackTown USA did not disappoint this past summer, and the biggest event that took place in the sport received major honors for such a remarkable performance.

The 2022 World Athletics Championships won the award for Best Professional Event at the 2022 SportsTravel Awards last Wednesday.

The event took place at the historic and recently renovated Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon back in July, and by all accounts, it was a success. Over 146,000 tickets were sold, and the event featured multiple evening sell outs. This was the first World Championship track and field meet that took place on U.S. soil in the history of the sport.

The event saw three world records set (Armand Duplantis, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Tobi Amusan) and 13 meet records were set as well. Celebrities such as rapper Travis Scott made an appearance at the event as well.

The SportsTravel Awards, sponsored by the SportsTravel Magazine, honors the best events, venues and host cities in the industry.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
