I know most people do a Thanksgiving Turkey Trot as a fun, casual, family activity to get outside and be active on a holiday. However, many athletes choose to utilize the popularity of turkey trots to get in a hard effort, which creates a beautiful melting pot of trotters. There are people rolling up to the turkey trot 3 minutes before the start gun wearing Keds, and people arriving an hour early to do a dynamic warm-up and change into their Alphaflies before the race starts. I am the latter, and I’m here to defend my position as serious trotter.
Now, I’m not trying to say that it’s wrong to trot casually. I’m just saying that it’s fun to get competitive with family members, throw around a little trash talk, and let it rip during the race. There is no other day of the year that has as many race opportunities, so why not take advantage and RACE? I must admit that I’m a recent convert to the “take the turkey trot seriously” side of the argument, but my experience this year has converted me for life. Watch the video below to see the race that changed my mind.
