The 2022 professional track and field season was one to remember.

We were treated to a season full of incredible performances, world records, championship records and a World Championship meet that was dominated by Team USA on home soil.

Katie Nageotte proved that she’s the best pole vaulter in the world with a remarkable performance at the World Championships that led to a gold medal. Noah Lyles, Fred Kerely and Michael Norman led the charge in the sprints by winning gold medals in the 200m, 100m and 400m, respectively.

Armand Duplantis, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone continued their stretch of dominance with their world-record breaking performances in their respective events, while youngesters like Femke Bol, Erriyon Knighton and Jakob Ingebrigtsen showed why they’re the future of the sport.

We also bid farewell to some of the legends who retired from the sport, like Allyson Felix and Kara Winger, whose names will live on in track and field history,

While the sport saw great performances on the professional scene, Colin Waitzman of Track World News says that the unique storylines that took place in the sport is what stood out to him the most.

“When I’ve been looking at track and field, I’ve kind of shifted my focus of things that I’ve been impressed by or things that I like from great performances to great storylines,” he said. “As a track nerd, sure, I really like the fast races, the world records and things like that. But I think the more important things in our sport are the storylines that can come about from track and field.”

Be sure to check out the latest episode of Track Talk to hear about the moments and storylines that stood out the most to Colin and myself.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
