Olympian and Hall of Famer Chaunté Lowe has been chosen by President Joe Biden to become a member of a Council that will benefit the American people.
Last Friday, President Biden announced his intent to appoint members of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, & Nutrition, and the former track and field standout was one of the 27 members named to the Council.
The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition seeks to promote healthy, accessible eating and physical activity for all Americans, regardless of background or ability.
During her time competing, Lowe accomplished great things on the track. During her time competing in the high jump, she made four Olympic teams, winning the bronze medal in the high jump in 2008. She won the gold, silver and bronze medal during her time competing at the World Championships during her career, and she’s won 12 national championships as a collegiate and professional athlete.
She was diagnosed with Stage 1 triple negative breast cancer in 2019 while training for the Olympics. While going through chemotherapy, she continued to train and advocated for breast cancer awareness. Lowe was awarded the 2021 NCAA Inspiration Award.
Lowe is a published children’s book author, as well as a motivational speaker who advocates for breast cancer awareness.
