Some of the best athletes in the sport will face off against one another at the 113th edition of the Drake Relays next weekend. Olympians, world record holders and world champions will take the track on April 28-29 in various events at the historic meet.

World record holder and world champion Tobi Amusan headlines the field in the women’s 100m hurdles. Amusan had a remarkable season last year, breaking the world record with her time of 12.12 in the event at the World Championships in Oregon. She’ll face off against Nia Ali, who was the 2019 world champion in the event as well as the 2016 silver medalist at the Olympic Games. She has a personal best time of 12.34.

Dalilah Muhammad is set to compete in the women’s 400m hurdles. The former world record holder and world champion in the event will face off against a talented field that includes Ashley Spencer, Gianna Woodruff and Anna Cockrell.

Blake Bolden, the director of the Drake Relays, is extremely excited about the field that’s shaping up for the event.

“The fact that so many of these competitors return to Drake Stadium yearly is a testament to the level of competition and our fans’ appreciation for these athletes,” Boldon said in a recent press release. “Additionally, seeing so many athletes that competed at the Drake Relays in college choose to return as professionals speaks volumes to their experience on the Blue Oval and the college competitions continuing to showcase the future star of track and field.”

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
