NFL athletes with track and field experience are putting up numbers each week. Below is a fantasy football week 8 recap of players who are on a roster and also have a background in track and field.
The trio from Miami (Hill, Waddle, and Mostert) once again showed out, each having stellar days. Arizona’s Trey McBride saw his biggest game of the season, hauling in 10 passes on 14 targets for 95 yards and a touchdown, each a season-high for the young tight end. Garrett Wilson (Jets) and Jahan Dotson (Commanders) both broke the century mark for the first time this season, with Dotson also adding a score giving him his highest-scoring fantasy point game of the season by nearly double.

Marquise Brown
Wide Receiver, Arizona Cardinals
Caught 6 passes on 9 targets for 33 yards and 1 touchdown

Brown was unable to break off one of his signature big plays against his former club Sunday, but he still delivered from a fantasy perspective via a short touchdown reception. It was the 26-year-old’s fourth touchdown through eight weeks, already surpassing the mark he set over 12 games last year. Brown has been providing consistent value while serving as Joshua Dobbs’ top receiving option this season. That said, Brown and the Cardinals will draw a tough road matchup against Cleveland’s elite pass defense next Sunday.
Trey McBride
Tight End, Arizona Cardinals
Caught 10 passes on 14 targets for 95 yards and 1 touchdown

McBride absorbed veteran Zach Ertz’s targets after the latter was placed on injured reserve following last week’s loss to Seattle. The end result was a career game for McBride, who upped his season receiving line to 25-265-1 through eight weeks. The 2022 second-round pick generated the exact same amount of receiving yards and touchdowns as a rookie, but he needed twice as many games to reach those totals in 2022. Ertz will miss Arizona’s next three games at a minimum, opening the door for McBride to provide fantasy value until the veteran returns, beginning with next Sunday’s tilt against Cleveland.
Kyle Pitts
Tight End, Atlanta Falcons
Caught 3 of 5 passes for 35 yards

Pitts’ latest quiet day came even with Taylor Heinicke relieving Desmond Ridder for the entire second half and more than doubling Ridder’s first half production. Pitts did out-target Jonnu Smith 5-1. Pitts has stabilized as a low-end TE1, but his floor remains lower than it should be while the ceiling efforts remain too few and far between. The Vikings are an appealing matchup for a Week 9 where four teams will be on bye.
Lamar Jackson
Quarterback, Baltimore Ravens
Completed 18 of 27 passes for 157 yards and 1 touchdown; rushed 5 times for 17 yards

After accounting for four touchdowns in the previous game, Jackson wasn’t asked to do much with Gus Edwards’ three-touchdown performance leading the way for Baltimore’s offense. The quarterback tied the game with a five-yard touchdown pass to Mark Andrews in the first quarter, kicking off a stretch of 24 unanswered Ravens points. Heading into a Week 9 home game against the Seahawks, Jackson has led the Ravens to a 6-2 record while posting a 9:3 TD:INT through the air and adding five rushing touchdowns through eight games.
Devin Duvernay

Stefon Diggs

The nine-catch effort was Diggs’ third of the season, though he was held below 100 yards for only the third time all year. That includes each of the past two weeks. Gabe Davis tied for the team lead in targets with 12. Interesting, but nothing more. Diggs will remain a cinch top-three overall option for Week 9 against the Bengals.
Ja’Marr Chase

Caught 10 of 12 targets for 100 yards and 1 touchdown; 2 carries for -8 yards

Chase led Bengals pass catchers across the stat sheet and helped put the nail in the coffin of the 49ers with his 17-yard touchdown grab in the fourth quarter that he punctuated with a backflip in a post-score celebration. Chase now has double-digit targets in four of the last five games, including in three straight, and has hit or eclipsed the century mark on three occasions overall. The 2021 first-round pick should once again play an integral role in a Week 9 home showdown against the Bills next Sunday night.
Marquise Goodwin

Goodwin came into the weekend with a questionable tag after logging two DNPs during Week 8 prep, but he was able to practice in a limited fashion Friday and will be able to suit up to face his former team Sunday. The veteran wideout has played a limited role on offense for Cleveland this season.
Elijah Moore

Caught 2 of 5 targets for 30 yards

The hybrid role Cleveland’s coaches envisioned for Moore on offense has not panned out, so he was given a chance to impact the game as a punt returner for the first time this season. While he’s sitting on zero touchdowns and 36.6 receiving yards per game, Moore remains a big piece on offense and is second on team with 48 targets.
Robert Woods
Wide Receiver, Houston Texans
Woods was inactive for Houston’s week 8 matchup against Carolina.
None of the inactives come as much of a shock, as both Woods and Rankins have been dealing with injuries all week. With Woods sidelined for the next two or three weeks, the Texans should have ample snaps for both Noah Brown and Tank Dell, who is returning in Week 8 after being out with a concussion. Sheldon Rankins is a well-known name, but his play on the field hasn’t quite lived up to name recognition of late, and his absence shouldn’t impact the Texans too much on Sunday.
Devin Singletary

Singletary saw 12 touches on the day, however was unable to reach 50 scrimmage yards against a Carolina defense that came into the game ranked 31st in rushing yards per game allowed.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Edwards-Helaire saw limited action on the offensive side of the ball, only having one rushing attempt and one target in the passing game. This week’s game rivals his lowest marks of the season, seemingly seeing less action with each passing week.
Kadarius Toney

Toney’s name continues to get brought up as fantasy managers look for any receiver to emerge in the Chiefs offense. However, the former Giant was nearly invisible on Sunday. As of now, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that his role will grow in the near future.
Mecole Hardman

Caught 2 of 2 targets for 13 yards; 1 rush for 3 yards; 1 lost fumble

Hardman’s biggest play of the game came when he muffed a punt at his own five-yard line with the Chiefs down 14-9 in the fourth quarter. The Broncos would score to claim a 21-9 lead they would not relent. Hardman was brought back by the Chiefs primarily as a return threat, and while he’s unlikely to lose that job, it doesn’t look like he’s going to all of the sudden become a fantasy relevant wide receiver any time soon.
Gerald Everett
Tight End, Los Angeles Chargers
Everett was inactive for Los Angeles’s Week 8 match-up against the Bears
Despite practicing fully Friday, Everett came down to a game-time decision and has ultimately been ruled out. In Everett’s absence, additional opportunities at tight end should be available for Donald Parham, with Stone Smartt and Tre’ McKitty possibly sliding into larger roles as well. Everett’s next chance to play will come on Monday Night Football against the Jets in Week 9.
Tyreek Hill
Wide Receiver, Miami Dolphis
Caught 8 of 13 targets for 112 yards and 1 touchdown

Hill actually finished second in receiving yards to Jaylen Waddle, a relatively unfamiliar position for the former. However, Hill still managed to record his fifth 100-yard tally of the season, including his third in the last four games. The highlight of Hill’s productive afternoon was his 42-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter, on which he outraced multiple defenders down the left side of the field after hauling in a well-thrown ball from Tua Tagovailoa. Hill also pushed his season yardage total to 1,014 in just eight games, keeping him well on pace to reach his self-proclaimed goal of 2,000 yards. The speedster now gears up for his first meeting with his former quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his old Chiefs squad when the Dolphins and Kansas City square off in Germany in Week 9.
Jaylen Waddle

Caught 7 of 12 targets for 121 yards and 1 touchdown

Waddle led the Dolphins in receiving yards on the afternoon, with the exclamation point coming via a 31-yard scoring grab in the fourth quarter, his third score of the season. All of Waddle’s end-zone trips this season have come within the last four contests, and Sunday’s performance also qualified as his first 100-yard tally of the campaign. Waddle figures to be busy once again during the Dolphins’ Week 9 showdown against the powerful Chiefs offense in Germany.
De’Von Achane

Raheem Mostert

Mostert turned in a much less efficient effort than usual on the ground and was surprisingly uninvolved in the air attack. However, he posted a serviceable fantasy performance anyhow thanks to his one-yard touchdown rush midway through the third quarter. Mostert still comfortably paced the ground attack in carries despite Jeff Wilson seeing his rush attempts climb to five in his second game of the campaign, and the workload split between the two will bear monitoring in a Week 9 showdown against the Chiefs in Germany.
Justin Jefferson

Jefferson continues his stint on the injured reserve, reportedly out 4-6 weeks with a hamstring injury
Jalen Reagor
Wide Receiver, New England Patriots

Now that he’ll get a more permanent spot on the 53-man roster, Reagor should settle into a regular depth role at receiver for New England. The 2020 first-round pick likely won’t have much room to see his role expand while all of Kendrick Bourne, DeVante Parker, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Demario Douglas are available.

Chris Olave

Olave didn’t pop off the stat sheet in this season-best scoring performance for the Saints offense. The 2022 first-round pick paced the team in targets for the third week in a row, as he’s accumulated 34 targets over this span. However, Olave has only accumulated 199 receiving yards in the sample, as he and quarterback Derek Carr have continually struggled to connect on deep passes over the last few weeks. The 23-year-old wideout’s consistency in the short-to-intermediate passing game provides a solid floor for his fantasy production, but, with just one touchdown on 44 receptions this season, he’ll likely need to start reeling in more deep balls in order to hit his ceiling in fantasy. Otherwise, Olave and 30-year-old wideout Michael Thomas will likely continue to cut into one another’s fantasy production moving forward.
Garrett Wilson
Wide Receiver, New York Jets
Caught 7 of 13 targets for 100 yards; 1 rush for 6 yards

It took overtime to get Wilson there, but he reached triple digits for the first time this season. It was just the second time he reached 100 yards in a game that Zach Wilson started. Wilson earned a 36 percent target share in this game and Breece Hall was second on the team with nine looks. When Wilson (Zach) wanted to move the chains, he looked to Wilson (Garrett). Though the New York offense remains stagnant sans Aaron Rodgers, Garrett will remain in the TE2 mix for Week 9 based on his elite role.
Devon Allen

Allen remained on the Eagles practice squad for their contest with the Dolphins this week
Kenneth Gainwell
Running Back, Phildelphia Eagles

Gainwell saw some work in the red zone, but lost a key fumble in the second quarter. The Eagles still leaned on Gainwell in the passing game, as he out-targeted D’Andre Swift on the day, but his contributions on the ground were non-existent. Gainwell’s five receptions marked a season high for him, but also account for 36 percent of his receptions on the season. Unless Swift were to miss time, Gainwell is nothing more than a handcuff as far as fantasy is concerned.
Jalen Hurts

Completed 29 of 38 passes for 319 yards and 4 touchdowns; rushed 4 times for 6 yards; 1 lost fumble

The Eagles got off to yet another sluggish start, but Hurts was key in bringing Philadelphia back to notch what turned out to be a furious comeback that included 21 fourth-quarter points. The star signal-caller connected with favorite target A.J. Brown for touchdown passes of 16 and 25 yards before adding scoring tosses of 38 and eight yards to DeVonta Smith and Julio Jones, respectively, in the fourth quarter. Hurts also narrowly missed out on yet another rushing touchdown via the infamous Brotherly Shove play, as he fumbled before reaching the goal line. Hurts’ touchdown tally was his highest of the season, although he did see his three-game streak with a rushing score snapped. Hurts next takes aim at the Cowboys in a Week 9 home divisional showdown.
George Pickens
Wide Receiver, Pittsburgh Steelers
Caught 1 of 5 targets for 22 yards and 1 touchdown

Although Diontae Johnson was targeted 14 times during Sunday’s matchup, Pickens was the lone Steelers receiver to reach the end zone in the defeat. Despite his touchdown, Pickens logged season-low marks in targets, receptions and yards. The 2022 second-rounder has had the ability to provide a spark for Pittsburgh’s lackluster offense this year, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him display some inconsistency now that Johnson is healthy.
Logan Thomas
Tight End, Washington Commanders
Caught 6 of 8 targets for 44 yards and 1 touchdown

The veteran tight end had been somewhat quiet since his season-best 9-77-1 line in Week 5 against the Bears, but he was an important part of a career-best passing day for Sam Howell on Sunday. Thomas also found the end zone for the third time this season and for the first time since the game against Chicago when he hauled in a seven-yard touchdown pass from Howell early in the fourth quarter. Thomas will next take aim at the Patriots’ spotty pass defense in a Week 9 road matchup.
Jahan Dotson
Wide Receiver, Washington Commanders
Caught 8 of 10 targets for 108 yards and 1 touchdown

Dotson led the Commanders in receptions and receiving yards on the afternoon with totals that also qualified as season highs. Dotson also recorded his second touchdown grab of the season for good measure, finding the end zone from 21 yards out early in the second quarter. The speedy second-year man carries an impressive 13-151-1 line over his last two games into a Week 9 road matchup against an inconsistent Patriots secondary that gave up a pair of 100-yard performances to the Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on Sunday.
