New York was the place to be last weekend when it comes to the road racing scene. While some of the world’s best runners took part in the New York City Marathon last Sunday, a number of professional runners took part in the USATF 5k Championships the day before in what proved to be a fantastic series of races.

Annie Rodenfels ran 15:22 in the women’s race to take home the win, while Morgan Beadlescomb took home the win in the men’s race with his time of 13:44.

Rodenfels, who runs for Team B.A.A., competed against a very talented field that included Weini Kelati and Keira D’Amato. For Rodenfels, this was her first national championship on the senior level. Rachel Smith finished as the runner-up with her time of 15:26, while Bethany Hasz finished in third place with her time of 15:27.

Morgan Beadlescomb outkicked the competition to take down some of the best runners in the world, including Woody Kincaid and Ahmed Muhumed. For Beadlescomb, this was also his first national title on the senior level. Ahmed Muhumed finished in second place with his time of 13:47 (13:46.160), while Tai Dinger finished in third with his time of 13:47 (13:46.570).

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
