If you blinked during the women’s 60m hurdles last Sunday at the Millrose Games, then you probably missed Devynne Charlton’s historic performance on the track.
Charlton, who represents the Bahamas and runs for Puma, exploded out of the blocks and never looked back. She took home the win against a very talented field in the event with her time of 7.67 seconds, and broke the women’s indoor 60m hurdles world record in the process.
“It felt fast,” Charlton said in the post race interview with World Athletics. “I felt myself separate from the field, but when they announced the time, it was a shock to me.
When I saw that clock, I felt relief. When you set a goal and work towards it all year, and then you achieve it, it makes you feel you’re on top of the world.”
Charlton competed at the World Indoor Championships in 2022 that took place in Belgrade, where she won the silver medal in the women’s 60m hurdles. She competed at the World Championships in Budapest last year, where she just missed the podium with her fourth place finish in the women’s 100m hurdles.
