Josh Hoey sets American Record in 1000m
Hoey, who finished fourth at last year’s Olympic Trials 800m, got his 2025 campaign off to a hot start, setting the American record for the 1000m at the Quaker Invitational on Saturday, running 2:14.48. He bettered the previous mark by over a second and a half, and was within a quarter of a second of the world record.
World Athletics launches alternate reality game
World Athletics has launched “Aeon Agon,” an online alternate reality game where players find themselves in a world devoid of the World Athletics Championships due to a time-travel mishap. Participants, guided by a character known as The Intern, collaborate with the protagonist, Agon, to piece together clues and restore the sport’s legacy. The game runs from January 20 to 26, with content released daily on the World Athletics Instagram account; the first 10 players to solve all riddles will win an exclusive World Athletics Championships poster book. Continental Tour schedule has been released
The 2025 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold will feature 13 meetings across five continents, commencing on March 29 in Melbourne, Australia. The series includes events in Gaborone, Tokyo, Zagreb, Bydgoszcz, Nairobi, Los Angeles, Hengelo, Turku, New York, Ostrava, Szekesfehervar, and concludes in Beijing on September 7, just before the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Notre Dame head football coach was a standout prep track athlete
Marcus Freeman, head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team, has a history in track and field, specifically in the throws. As a prep from Wayne High School in Ohio, he competed in shot put (55’ 4”) and discus throw (149’ 6”), and also ran on the teams 4×100m relay. As a freshman, he was part of a team win at the Ohio state track and field championships.
Neeraj Chopra married to Himani Mor
The Olympic gold medalist and World Champion javelin thrower from India, has married tennis player Himani Mor in a private ceremony. The wedding took place in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, on January 16.
