Hoppel and Hoey to Face Off in Millrose 800m

American record holders Bryce Hoppel and Josh Hoey are set to compete in the 800 meters at the 2025 Millrose Games on February 8 at the Armory. Hoppel, the reigning World Indoor champion, had a standout 2024 season, securing World Indoor gold, his third consecutive U.S. outdoor title, and setting an American record of 1:41.67 at the Paris Olympics. Hoey, who recently broke the American indoor 1000 meter record with a time of 2:14.48, will join a competitive field that includes NCAA champion Shane Cohen and high school standout Cooper Lutkenhaus.

Louie Hinchliffe signs with ASICS

Hinchliffe announced today that he has signed a professional contract with ASICS. The sprint standout achieved significant milestones in 2024 by winning both the NCAA and British 100 meter Championship titles. He represented Great Britain at the 2024 Paris Olympics, contributing to the team’s bronze medal in the men’s 4×100 meter relay.

Ivy League opts out of NCAA settlement

The Ivy League has decided not to participate in the NCAA’s proposed $2.8 billion antitrust settlement, which would allow schools to provide direct compensation to athletes. A conference spokesperson stated that this decision aligns with their commitment to maintaining its traditional model, emphasizing academic primacy and prohibiting any form of compensation for athletic participation. Consequently, Ivy League student-athletes will continue to be ineligible for revenue-sharing allocations, athletic scholarships, or direct name, image, and likeness (NIL) payments from their universities.

IOC president search nearing to a close

On January 30, International Olympic Committee (IOC) members will convene at Olympic House in Lausanne for presentations by candidates vying for the IOC presidency. This session will provide each candidate the opportunity to outline their vision and plans for the future of the Olympic Movement. Current World Athletics president Sebastian Coe is among the finalists for the role to replace Thomas Bach as the head of the IOC.

BOLDERBoulder gaining ground on USA’s largest road races

Following an 18.3% year-on-year finisher increase, the BOLDERBoulder climbed two spots to the fourth position among the USA’s largest road races in 2024. The three events larger are, in order, the New York City Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and Peachtree Road Race. The 2025 race is scheduled for May 26.
