At the Diamond League event in Shanghai/Suzhou, Chase (Ealey) Jackson won the day over Canada’s Sarah Mitton.
Both Jackson and Mitton got their best throws out early, with the winning throw from Chase coming in her second attempt (20.03 meters) and Sarah’s first throw being her top mark (19.86 meters).
The duo have been sharing the podium as top contenders in the shot put the past few seasons, with them going 1-2 (Jackson-Mitton) at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, and Mitton getting the best of Jackson at the most recent World Indoor Championships in Glasgow – Mitton won gold off a season’s best throw and Jackson finished in third.
This result is a return to form for both athletes, as they finished in third and fourth at last week’s Diamond League competition in Xiamen.
Also in Shanghai, Valarie Allman once again came away with the top mark in the women’s discus. At Xiamen, she threw a meet record and season best of 69.80 meters, which she bettered by 6 centimeters in the most recent competition, throwing 69.86 meters for the win. Each of Allman’s first five throws would have been good enough to win the competition, with her farthest coming in the 5th round. For the second week in a row, China’s Bin Feng and Cuba’s Yaime Pérez rounded out the podium.
