Ethan Katzberg, Valarie Allman, Janeé Kassavanoid, and Camryn Rogers all got their season off to a huge start across the globe this weekend.
At the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, Canada’s Ethan Katzberg got his season started in historic fashion. On his fifth attempt, he launched a throw that was farther than anything since 2008 (when Katzberg himself was only six years old). This 84.38m throw would be a new meet record for the Keino Classic in addition to a world lead and personal best for Ethan.
Also at the Kip Keino Classic, USA’s Janeé Kassanavoid would make a statement of her own, throwing the hammer 75.99m in her fifth attempt. This is Kassanavoid’s best season opener of her career and would better her nearest competitor in the field by nearly two meters.
Camryn Rogers (Canada) had a big throw of her own, launching the hammer 76.30m at Mt. SAC. Rogers started her season two weeks ago at the University of California, throwing an impressive opener with 76.87m.
In the discus at the Xiamen Diamond League, Valarie Allman (USA) wrote her name in the record books, throwing a meet record of 69.80m. She finished ahead of an impressive podium of Yaimé Perez (Cuba, 68.83m), and China’s Bin Feng (67.07m).
