Twas’ on this very March 8th day, 35 years ago, at the very first ever World Indoor Championships (Indianapolis, 1987) that Arkansas teammates via Ireland went 1-2 in a fantabulously competitive the 3,000 meters; key highlight of this inaugural meet.
The top three were separated by just .61 seconds with Frank O’Mara (8:03.32) getting the win over Paul Donovan (8:03.39) while a young Hoosier, Terry Brahm (8:03.92) surprised in third spot.
The track nut was in attendance as the Reebok footwear ‘boots on the ground’ running promo guy, which both the gold and silver medalists were conveniently shod in.
So, when I say that this was one of the most memorable races that I’ve EVER witnessed, my viewpoint is quite obviously skewed.
But that’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
Awesome anniversary shout out to my pals, Frank, Paul and Terry. It seems impossible that this was three and a half decades ago, right? 👊
