The Prefontaine Classic announced today that two of the USA’s top pole vaulters, Katie Moon and Sandi Morris are set to compete at this year’s event.
Moon and Morris are consistently podium favorites in international competition with at least one of them medaling at each Worlds or Olympics since 2016. Katie’s run at major competitions begins in 2021 with a gold medal at the Tokyo Games, which she followed with gold medals at the next two World Outdoor Championships (2022 Eugene and 2023 Budapest). She also has a silver and bronze medal from World Indoor Championship competitions (2022 Belgrade and 2024 Glasgow, respectively).
Sandi has been touting medal performances since 2016, a year in which she earned a silver medal at both the Indoor World Championships in Portland and at the Rio Olympics. She has earned three additional silver medals at Outdoor World Championships (2017 London, 2019 Doha, and 2022 Eugene), and two gold medals from World Indoors (2018 Birmingham and 2022 Belgrade).
Moon has a personal best jump of 4.95 meters whereas Morris’s 5.00 meter jump from the 2016 indoor season is the current American Record. Sandi’s outdoor personal best is, like Katie’s, 4.95 meters. They have both won numerous USA Championships.
The Prefontaine Classic is part of the Diamond League circuit and is scheduled for May 25 in Eugene, Oregon.
