Keanu Reeves to Play Iconic Speedster on the Big Screen

It was announced yesterday that legendary film star Keanu Reeves would reportedly be voicing Shadow the Hedgehog in the upcoming Sonic 3 movie.

Since Shadow was teased to audiences at the end of the second movie in the franchise, fans have been curious as to who would take on the role of Sonic’s dark incarnation. Notably in the lore, Shadow never ages, so Reeves is the perfect selection for the role.

When it comes to speed however, it is open to consideration as to which of the iconic characters would be the first to break the tape.

Sonic is often portrayed as “the fastest thing alive,” and his speed is a defining trait in games, comics, and animated series. He has the ability to run at supersonic speeds and can even break the sound barrier.

Shadow, on the other hand, was introduced as a rival to Sonic and is equipped with similar speed abilities. He can match Sonic’s speed and has some additional abilities like using “Chaos Control” to warp time and space, which can give him an edge in mobility and combat.

In terms of raw speed, both characters are often depicted as evenly matched in the Sonic universe. When it comes to racing or competing against each other, either could potentially be the winner depending on the circumstances and the story being told. They are both incredibly fast, with slight variations usually depending on the narrative or gameplay mechanics of specific titles.

As for their time in respective track events, using a speed figure from the manual for Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic can run at 3840 miles per hour, which would give us the following:

  • 100 meters: 0.058 seconds
  • 200 meters: 0.117 seconds
  • 400 meters: 0.233 seconds
  • 800 meters: 0.466 seconds
  • Mile: 0.938 seconds
  • 5000 meters: 2.913 seconds
  • 10000 meters: 5.825 seconds
  • Marathon: 24.580 seconds
