The Brooks Beasts announced that Rebecca Mehra has joined the Seattle based training group.
Mehra has been with Oiselle since finishing her college career at Stanford in 2017. In a post to Instagram, she wrote, “I’ve met and become lifelong friends with many of the athletes who have represented the company, as well as employees. Oiselle, and the people within it, took a chance on me when no one else would. Between moves to Portland, Bend, and Seattle, and several coaching changes, I’ve been supported and uplifted by the Volée, and women across the country.”
Over the past two years, Mehra has mostly been training on her own, noting about the change to a group atmosphere, “Training with and around the team the last several months has been so uplifting in every possible way. Having training partners again, as well as a team environment, has made all the difference for me. It’s a special feeling to be invested in the success of others.”
Mehra specializes in middle distance races and has personal bests of 2:00.82 (800m), 4:04.90 (1500m), and 4:27.95 (mile). At the 2021 Prefontaine Classic, she won the North American 1500m with a time of 4:06.39. Since 2022, she has worked through both long COVID symptoms and an acetabular labrum tear.
In her 2024 season opener at Boston University in February, Mehra ran a 4:31 mile, afterward saying, “Was the time or race itself magical? No. But for the first time in a very long time, I feel like it’s a fabulous starting point. Grateful for all of the people in my corner! Onwards and upwards.”
