The 2020 U.S. marathon national champion will not be toeing the line at the Chicago Marathon this weekend.
Aliphine Tuliamuk recently announced that she would be withdrawing from the Chicago Marathon due to an injury that she has been dealing with.
“Unfortunately I am withdrawing from the Chicago Marathon,” she recently announced on Instagram. “1.5 weeks into my Kenyan training camp, a chronic hamstring issue that I had been successfully managing for months became acute. An MRI showed a tendon sprain. I am feeling alot better now but not 100% to race to my best, plus I lost a week of training already. I worked so hard this summer to get fit and manage aches from having done this running longer. I wanted to be in the best shape possible then test it at the Chicago Marathon, but my body said NO. I am now listening to it by taking some good quality time to recover while spending time with my Kenyan side of the family. Thanks to my entire support system for always being there.”
Tuliamuk has been a force on the roads throughout her career. In addition to winning the U.S. 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials, she has won various championships, including the USATF 25 km Championships, the USATF 20 km Championships and the USATF Cross Country Championships, among her other national titles.
