Ryan Crouser is everything that’s great about the sport of track and field. Every time he steps in the shot put ring, there’s always a chance that he could break his own world record that he’s already set in the event.
Saturday’s performance at the L.A. Grand Prix was proof of this, as Crouser broke the world record on his fourth throw of the event, with a mark of 23.56m.
“I caught a big one, but there’s still a lot more there, which is really exciting,” he said after the event. “I haven’t been throwing hard in training, I’ve been at that 75% intensity. Working on some technical stuff – some of it stuck, some of it still needs improvement. So I’m really, really excited for this as a stepping stone going forward.”
Crouser’s first two throws were the No. 2 and No 4. farthest throws in the history of the event. He broke his own world record that he set back in 2021 at the Olympic Trials in Eugene by 21 centimeters.
Tom Walsh of New Zealand finished as the runner-up behind Crouser, throwing a new season’s best mark of 22.12m.
