Two of the best marathoners in the history of the event will be inducted into the New York Road Runners Hall of Fame in early November.

Last week, it was announced that Deena Kastor and Ernst van Dyk will be inducted into the NYRR Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place at the NYRR’s Night of Champions on November 3 which will kick off the festivities at the New York Marathon.

Olympic medalist and two-time New York City Marathon winner Deena Kastor enjoyed great success competing at the New York City Marathon in her career. She made her marathon debut in 2001, running 2:26:58.

“What an honor to be inducted into the NYRR Hall of Fame this year along with Ernst Van Dyk, whom I’ve long looked up to and admired for his lengthy career,” Kastor said in the press release. “The TCS New York City Marathon in particular began my love for the distance and introduced me to the community I immediately resonated with as an athlete. Thanks to NYRR, that community includes so many ages, nations, and abilities coming together to be uplifted by this sport.”

Paralympic bronze medalist Ernst van Dyk was a standout performer at the New York City Marathon in his career. He won the event twice, with his first win in 2005.

“This came as a total surprise and I’m profoundly honored and deeply humbled,” van Dyk said in the press release. “This induction isn’t about me, it’s about the spirit of perseverance and the belief that every obstacle is an opportunity to redefine what’s possible.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
