Dwight Phillips Jr. is well known in the football world. The talented athlete is rated as a four-star running back by the major recruiting services, and is committed to the Georgia Bulldogs, who have won the last two college football national titles.
On the track, he’s just as talented as he is on the football field, and he proved it last weekend with a remarkable time in the 100m. He ran a wind-legal 10.29 at the AJ Terrell Invitational this past Saturday. His time is the fastest time ran so far this season at the high school ranks.
If the name Dwight Phillips Jr. sounds somewhat familiar to track and field fans, that’s because his father is Olympic gold medalist Dwight Phillips Sr.
Phillips Sr. was a staple in the long jump during his days competing as a professional. He won the Olympic gold medal in the event at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, while also winning five world championships in the event as well. His personal best in the long jump is 28-8 ¼ feet (8.74m).
His son has had a successful high school track and field career so far as well. Last year, he won the Georgia outdoor state championship in the 100m, running 10.43 seconds.
Like Father? We just have to wait and see if Phillips Jr. can set records like his dad.
