Two of the best races of the day took place in Winter Haven, Connecticut at the USATF 20k Championships, where Emily Sisson and Clayton Young took home championships in their respective fields.
After finishing as the runner-up to Keira D’Amato in the same race last year, Sisson left no stone unturned this time around. Sisson took the lead and kept the lead against the impressive field of competitors for the entirety of the race, as she won the title with her time of 1:06.09.
Ednah Kurgat finished in second place with her time of 1:06.39, while Emily Durgin finished in third place with her time of 1:06.59.
The men’s race came down to the last second, literally. That’s how close the finish of the race ended up being. Clayton Young and Conner Mantz sprinted to the finish, and it was Young who took home the victory with his winning time of 59.15. Mantz finished as the runner-up with his time of 59.16. Sam Chelanga finished in third place with his time of 59.26.
