Faith Kipyegon and Roshawn Clarke respectfully had two incredible individual seasons on the track that included historic performances from them both. Now, those historic performances from Kipyegon and Clarke are now official.
World Athletics announced on Wednesday that Kipyegon’s world record in the women’s mile and Clarke’s U20 record in the men’s 400m hurdles have now been officially ratified by World Athletics.
Kipyegon, who represents Kenya on the national stage, broke three world records last season, with her world record performance in the women’s mile taking place at the Monaco DL meet. She ran a new lifetime best in the event with her time of 4:07.64, which was fast enough to break the world record in the event that was formerly held by Siffan Hassan.
“I really enjoyed the race,” Kipyegon said in an interview with World Athletics. “I came for that, I wanted to chase the world record.”
Roshawn Clarke had a fantastic season that saw him take two seconds off of his lifetime best in the men’s 400m hurdles. The talented hurdler broke the U20 world record in the event in the semifinals of the men’s 400m hurdles at the World Championships in Budapest this past summer. He finished fourth overall at the World Championships.
