Over the past couple of weeks, you might have noticed that some of the biggest stars in track and field have shown that they also have a great sense of style.
It’s garnered attention across the social media platforms, and athletes such as Noah Lyles hopes that more attention can be brought to the athletes and the style that they display at track meets.
In a sport that’s looking to continue to grow and build a larger audience, Anderson Emerole of The Final Leg and Track and Field Black History believes athletes showing off their fashion prowess is a very important thing,
“I think it’s super important actually,” he said. “I think it’s important where most importantly, athletes can highlight their own kind of style, the athletes can highlight their personality. We see them on the track for a couple of seconds and for distance races, a couple of minutes or whatever may be. Aside from that, a lot of people may not know who they are or know their personality. They get to kind of showcase themselves with their outfits, that brings a whole new level of personality into the athletes, into the sport and then before they get on the track or before they get into the field or whatever may be. I think for me, that’s what I love about it.”
While the style has been impressive, the performances so far this season from some of track and field’s best has been the topic of conversation. Athletes such as Femke Bol have turned heads with elite performances throughout the season. So far, Bol has broken a world record (500m) and set two European records (200m, 400) in her indoor campaign.
Anderson Emerole joins this episode of Track Talk to discuss all these things and more.
