While the World Championships are set to take place in a little over a week, it’s not too early to look ahead to the Diamond League action that’s set to take place after the World Championships in Budapest.
It was announced on Wednesday that Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will face off against Femke Bol in the women’s 400m hurdles at the Brussels Diamond League Meet that will take place on September 8. This is the first time that the two talented athletes have met this season in the event.
McLaughlin-Levrone holds the world record in the event with her time of 50.68, which she set last season at the World Championships in Eugene, which also secured her the gold medal in the event. She has the two fastest times in the history of the event, and she hasn’t lost a race in the 400m hurdles since the 2019 World Championships in Doha, where she finished as the runner-up to Dalilah Muhammad.
Bol is looking to continue her fantastic season in the women’s 400m hurdles. She ran a new personal best time of 51.45 at the London Diamond League meet, which is the third fastest time ever recorded behind McLaughlin-Levrone. Bol is viewed as the favorite heading into the World Championships in Budapest. She hasn’t raced McLaughlin-Levrone since the finals of the World Championships last season, where she finished as the runner-up in the women’s 400m hurdles.
