Nike has entered into the NIL sweepstakes, and they signed one of the best athletes in the nation. It was announced on Tuesday that Parker Valby of the Florida Gators signed a name, image, and likeness deal with the brand.

“I’m thrilled to announce that Nike is sponsoring me as their first female NCAA T&F athlete,” Valby said in her official announcement on Instagram. “Nike has given me the tools to pursue my passion at the highest level and I’m so excited for what the future holds.”

“This deal allows athletes like myself to earn an income while pursuing a college degree and competing in the NCAA,” Valby said in an interview with LetsRun. “I love being part of a college team and representing my university, so for me it’s a real positive. Also, part of the agreement with Nike will allow me the opportunity to get involved with the local community, which is awesome.”

Valby was a key member of the Florida Gators women’s national championship team that won the national title in the women’s 5000m at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She finished as the runner-up in the event last season.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
