One of the best hurdlers in North Carolina history is set to receive a very high honor in a few weeks.
It was announced on New Year’s Eve that former standout hurdler Johnny Dutch will be inducted into the North Carolina Hall of Fame on January 23 at the Mondo Elite High School Invitational at the JDL Fast Track.
During his high school career, Dutch not only won nine individual state championships, but he also won the national title in the 60m hurdles and in the 110 hurdles. He still holds the national record in the 50m hurdles, and he was named the North Carolina Gatorade Boys’ Track & Field Athlete of the Year during his prep career.
He went on to compete at the University of South Carolina, where he won the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor national title in the 400 hurdles in 2010, while also setting the school record and a personal best in the event in the same year with his time of 47.63 in the event. He was an eight-time All-American during his time at South Carolina.
As a professional athlete, he won the USATF Outdoor National Championship in the 400 hurdles in 2014.
Dutch has now turned his attention to film, as he is both a film director and film writer. He’s produced the short film entitled The Boy and Boris, as well as Float. His films have been featured on Woke Nation’s YouTube channel, as well as Aspire TV.
