Two of the best athletes in the sport will compete at the New Balance Grand Prix on February 4.
It was announced by World Athletics on Tuesday that Fred Kerley and Lamecha Girma will take their talents to Boston to take part at the event. This will be Girma and Kerley’s first time competing at the competition.
Girma will be competing in the men’s 3000m at the NBIGP. Girma, who represents Ethiopia, had a sensational 2023 campaign that started in the indoor season. The talented steeplechaser took down the indoor 3000m world record during last year’s indoor season with his time of 7:23.81. In the outdoor season, he broke the world record in the event, running 7:52.11 at the Diamond League meet in Paris. He took home the silver medal in the men’s 3000m steeplechase at the World Championships in Budapest.
Kerley is looking to get back to his dominant ways in the men’s sprints. He will be make his 60m debut at the NBIGP and will face off against elite competition, including Noah Lyles. Kelrey took home the men’s 100m title in 2022 at the World Championships in Eugene.
