One of the best marathon runners in the U.S. is now set to run for one of the biggest brands in sports.

Gabi Rooker announced on Thursday that she signed a professional contract with Nike. She will be competing in the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Orlando on Feb. 3.

In her post to Instagram, Rooker wrote, “I am thrilled to share that I am officially a Nike athlete. I’ve been overwhelmed with support from the entire Nike Running team. Thanks to the commitment, support, and passion of each person I have been lucky to interact with at Nike, my life has improved in ways I could never have imagined. I can’t wait to represent Nike at the Olympic Trials next month.

The horizon has changed but one thing hasn’t. I’m going to keep running and keep chasing it and I can’t wait to see what’s next.”

Rooker burst onto the marathon scene in 2021, and she’s continued to improve year after year. At Grandma’s Marathon in 2021, she ran 2:56.27 in the event. She improved her time by over 20 minutes in 2022, with her best performance of the year taking place at the California International Marathon, where she ran 2:29.44.

At the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in 2023, she ran a new personal best time of 2:24.35.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
