Grant Holloway and Tia Jones sprinted their way into the history books on Friday at the USATF Indoor Championships.
Holloway and Jones had semifinal rounds to remember, as Holloway broke his own world record in the men’s 60m hurdles with his time of 7.27 seconds, while Jones tied the world record in the women’s 60m hurdles with her time of 7.67 seconds.
Holloway has been a staple in the men’s 60m hurdles in the indoor scene for nearly a decade. Holloway has a bye, which automatically qualifies him for the 2024 World Athletics Indoor World Championships in the event. He did not run in the finals, which was won by Trey Cunningham.
Jones was on a mission when she took the track, and she accomplished what she set out to do with two incredible performances. She not only tied the world record in the semifinals, but she won the USATF Indoor title in the event later on in the evening with her time of 7.68 seconds, only .01 off of the world record.
Jones tied the world record that Devynne Charlton set at the Millrose Games less than a week ago.
