Grant Holloway is on a mission to help those in need during the quickly approaching holiday season.
The three-time world champion and Olympic silver medalist in the men’s 110m hurdles is using his platform to help others in his hometown, and current town off the track through a different sport.
“I’m hosting a golf tournament in Gainesville on October 14, just to really raise the need for less fortunate families in the Gainesville area, as well as in my hometown area,” he said. ”Whether that’s getting food, whether that’s getting gifts, I just want everybody to have a great holiday season. So what better way to do it than a golf tournament?”
The Grant Holloway Athletics Foundation Golf Tournament will benefit those in need in two cities that are near and dear to Holloway: Gainesville, Florida and Chesapeake, Virginia.
Holloway was a standout athlete who competed for the Florida Gators during his collegiate career. He won seven national championships as a member of the Gators, and he competed in multiple events, including the 60m hurdles, 110m hurdles, as well as the long jump, the men’s 4x100m and 4x400m relays. He currently trains in Gainesville under coach Mike Holloway.
Prior to taking his talents to Gainesville to compete for the Gators, Holloway was a standout athlete in Chesapeake, which is about 25-30 minutes away from Virginia Beach. Holloway was a standout athlete in track and field, as well as football, where he was ranked as one of the best wide receiver prospects in the nation according to ESPN’s recruiting services.
Holloway has a passion for helping and inspiring others, and he’s excited for the opportunity to continue following his calling in serving others.
“It’s just one of the things now where I just continue just to figure out what I need to do and how I need to do it,” he said. “It’s just one of the things where I look forward to really just helping out other people. And the main thing is, is just really just figuring out how I can reach you know, those different outlets. So definitely happy about it, definitely excited for it. It’s just one of the things now where I just continue to work and you know, have a little bit of fun.”
The special tournament came about right before one of the biggest track and field meets of the season. Due to Holloway’s incredible season and performances on the sports biggest stages, he was able to ride the momentum that he created for himself and get the word about his tournament.
“It kind of came on the spur of the moment, right before [World Championships] honestly,” he said. “Because right after worlds, I was able to pulse it obviously, with me winning and having a good amount of buzz. But like I said, just to continue to bring up awareness. It’s something I love and something that I love to do. So I’m very, very excited about that.”
The Grant Holloway Athletics Foundation Golf Tournament will take place at the Ironwood Golf Course in Gainesville from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be a silent auction that will take place as well during the event, which will also provide breakfast and lunch. Holloway has been vocal about the tournament on social media applications X (formerly known as Twitter) as well as Instagram, which is where others who are interested in learning more about the event can follow along.
“So just between those two links – obviously I’ll be reposting it and get it all out there now but I’m really looking forward to it and excited to see other people show up,” he said.
Be sure to click on the official site of the event to register for the tournament.
Grant’s got a big heart for others! I’m sure this will become an annual event that blesses many.
