One of the most talented marathon runners in U.S. history won’t be running in arguably the biggest race in New York City.
After suffering a setback in her recovery process, Sara Hall announced on Saturday that she will miss the New York City Marathon next Sunday.
The last 2 months I’ve poured the most I ever have into this sport to overcome my IT band injury and be ready to line up at @nycmarathon but unfortunately it was too stubborn.

Grateful for the people in this with me and to do something I love so much and miss so terribly. pic.twitter.com/3g6sRC97XJ

“The last 2 months I’ve poured more into this sport than I ever have to overcome this IT band injury and be ready for @nycmarathon — but unfortunately this tendon was too stubborn and I won’t be lining up next weekend,” Hall said in an Instagram post. “I’m always so grateful for the people in this with me but never more than in times like this. And so thankful to do something I love so much and miss so terribly. There was never a question whether I wanted to still do this and if all the effort was worth it— and I know it will all pay off at future starting lines. Good luck to everyone racing! Enjoy those magical streets.”
Hall was forced to withdraw from the Berlin Marathon in September due to the same injury.
