Elle St. Pierre set the track on fire at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow on Saturday with a performance for the history books.
St. Pierre pulled off an incredible feat in the women’s 3000m, winning the race with her time of 8:20.87, which was a new American Record.
St. Pierre held off Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay, who finished as the runner-up in the race with her time of 8:21.13. Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya finished with the bronze medal in the event with her time of 8:22.68.
“This is amazing,” St. Pierre said in an interview after the race. “It’s all I ever dreamed of. It’s been a big year for me. It’s really emotional to think of, but a year ago my son was born; to be here as a world champion, I can’t imagine it. I feel like a new person, a new athlete. I can’t wait to see him after this.”
St. Pierre, who gave birth almost a year ago to the day, took home the silver medal in the event at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships.
