Issam Asinga took the track and field world by storm this past weekend, adding to what’s already been a very impressive season for the high school sensation.
Competing at the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational in Clermont, Florida, the talented sprint sensation ran 9.86w in the preliminary round of the 100m, and then followed that performance up with a blistering time of 9.83w in the finals of the event. Both times were the fastest times run by any high school athlete under any condition.
Asinga defeated an impressive field of sprinters, including 200m world champion and American record holder Noah Lyles.
Asinga, who is committed to Texas A&M, burst onto the scene after what was a very impressive indoor campaign. He tied the national high school record in the 60m at the New Balance Indoor National Championships, running 6.57. He then broke the high school indoor 200m record with his time of 20.48 at the same event.
Asinga, along with some of his other Montverde Academy teammates opted out of the FHSAA State Series, as they look to compete in bigger meets throughout the season. Asinga is now competing with Celerity Athletics.
