The 2023 collegiate track and field season was one for the record books, figuratively and literally. Of the countless athletes who graced the track and the field and delivered marvelous performances, two athletes stood out above the rest on Thursday night.
Jaydon Hibbert won the Men’s Bowerman Award on Thursday evening, while Julien Alfred won the Women’s Bowerman Award.
Hibbert achieved great success in record breaking fashion during his freshman campaign at the University of Arkansas. The talented triple jumper was unmatched in competition during the indoor and outdoor season, as he went undefeated in competition, while also winning the indoor triple jump title, as well as the outdoor triple jump title.
Hibbert broke the U20 world record in the triple jump, as well as the indoor and outdoor collegiate records in the event. He’s the first Jamaican athlete and freshman athlete to win the Bowerman Award.
Julien Alfred could do no wrong on the track this past season. The talented sprinter who competed for the University of Texas was dynamic on the track in the indoor and the outdoor season. Alfred took home national titles in the indoor women’s 60m as well as the indoor women’s 200m, nearly breaking the world record in both events.
During the outdoor season, Alfred took home national titles in the women’s 100m, 200m and was a member of the Longhorns 4x100m relay team that took home the national title as well.
