Josh Kerr was a man on a mission at the Millrose Games and would not be denied. He delivered a historic performance, breaking the world record in the men’s indoor 2-mile.
“That’s the level of athlete that I’ve become,” Kerr said in an interview after the race. “I had to roll through the punches through my career and be good and not world-class, and then be world-class and not world champion. Now I’m world champion and having fun with it and creating big goals to get myself out the door and prove that I’m not all talk. Hopefully it’s been exciting for you guys over the last couple months.”
Kerr negative split the last mile of the race, running 3:57.04. He was able to make his move with two laps to go in the race, and quickly separated from the field to take home the win and the world record.
Grant Fisher finished in second place, breaking the American record in the event with his time of 8:03.62. His time is No. 3 in the history books.
The talented runner from Great Britain is the reigning outdoor world 1500m champion.
