Fans and spectators were treated to a remarkable performance at the London Marathon on Sunday, where Amos Kipruto and Yalemzerf Yehualaw finished at the top of the podium in their respective races.
Kipruto took home the London Marathon title in thrilling fashion, pulling away from the field and taking the win with his time of 2:04:39. Leul Gebresilase finished in second place, running 2:05:12, while Bashir Abdi finished in third place, running 2:05:19.
“This is my London debut and it’s a wonderful day,” Kipruto told World Athletics after the race. “I decided to make a decisive break because of my training – I was confident and I knew when to go.”

In the women’s race, Yalemzerf Yehualaw suffered a fall, but was able to recover nicely to take the win, running 2:17:26. Joyciline Jepkosgei finished in second place, running 2:18:07, while Alemu Megertu finished in third place, running 2:18:32.

“I am so happy to win here in London,” Yehualaw told World Athletics after the race. “I have worked very hard to prepare for this race and to take the victory is amazing.
“I knew it was fast paced and I was aware we were on world record-breaking time at one point, but I just focused on running as fast as I could.”
