Erriyon Knighton accomplished great things on the track last season in the 200m. He solidified himself as one of the best sprinters in the sport with his many remarkable performances over the course of the year.
Now, one of his most impressive performances is officially in the books as a U20 world record.
Knighton ran a superb race to finish second to Noah Lyles at the USATF Outdoor Championship back in June. His second place finish earned him an automatic spot on the World Championship team.
Knighton started off his season in the 200m with a jaw dropping performance in Baton Rouge with his time of 19.49, which was a personal best for him. He ended up running sub 20 second performances in the 200m seven times during the course of last season.
At the World Championships in Oregon, Knighton continued his streak of remarkable running by winning a bronze medal in the 200m, finishing second to only Noah Lyles (gold) and Kenny Bednarek (silver).
Knighton took home the Male Rising Star Award that was given out by World Athletics on December 5. He’s coached by Mike Holloway at the University of Florida.
