Last Sunday’s race at the Great North Run half-marathon marked the end of an era for one of the best to lace up a pair of running shoes.
In his final race of his career, Mo Farah finished 4th at the Great North Run-half marathon with his time of 1:03.28.
“There was a lot going through my mind today,” Farah told the BBC in an interview after the race. “I wanted to end my career here in Newcastle. I’ve won it six times and come here off the back of Olympics and world championships.
It is very emotional. I get to go and enjoy my time with my wife and kids. Running is all I know. When you win something, you don’t quite appreciate it as much as when you lose. I’ve struggled with injuries these last few years.”
Farah won four Olympic gold medals over the course of his international career competing for Great Britain, while also tallying eight medals at multiple world championships. He’s also won nine European Championships as well.
Farah became a full-time marathon runner in 2018. His biggest win took place at the Chicago Marathon, where he won the race with his time of 2:05.11.
