After a remarkable and historic performance at the Raleigh Relays last weekend, N.C. State’s Allie Hays is receiving national recognition.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Hays was named the USTFCCCA Division One National Female Athlete Of The Week. She was named the ACC Co-Women’s Track Performer Of The Week on Monday.

Hays won the 10,000m Invitational at the Raleigh Relays last weekend with her time of 32:21.13. Her time broke the school record in the event, as well as the meet and facility record. She also has the fastest time in the NCAA in the event so far in the outdoor season.

Hays is a graduate student for the Wolfpack, and she’s accomplished great things in her three seasons competing for N.C. State. She’s a four-time All-American on the track as well as on the cross country course, and she’s a two-time All-ACC performer as well.

Hays competed for Columbia University prior to competing for N.C. State. During her time there, she earned Second Team All-American honors in the 5000m, and earned multiple All-Region and All-Ivy League team honors as well. She earned multiple USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in 2019, as well as Academic All-Ivy League honors.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
