The weather in Boston and Seattle might have been a little chilly this past weekend, but the action on the track was just the opposite.
Some of the best in the sport on the collegiate and professional scene gathered and competed at the Boston University Terrier Classic as well as the University of Washington’s Husky Invite and put on a show for fans. Nico Young and Nikki Hiltz in particular, ran their way into the record books with sensational performances.
Young’s 5000m time of 12:57.14 at the Terrier Classic was not only a personal best time for the talented runner from NAU, but it was fast enough to break the collegiate record in the event as well. The time gives him the Olympic standard in the event.
Hiltz kicked off their season in impressive fashion in Seattle at the Husky Invite. Nikki broke the American record in the women’s 1000m, running 2:34.09 to take the win.
“’Happiness is the joy we feel striving after our potential.’ My mom’s pre race quote never misses,” Nikki posted on Instagram. “Had the time of my life yesterday opening up my season with friends in Seattle!”
