Madrid was good to Yared Nuguse and Daniel Roberts on Wednesday.
Nuguse competed in the men’s 1500m against the likes of Mario Garcia Romo and Mohamed Katir. He came away with the win, running 3:33.69.
“My tactic was simple,” Nuguse told World Athletics after the race. “Follow the pacer and then keep pushing towards the end. Katir overtook me but I stayed calm and pushed a bit more.
“I came here to run fast and that’s exactly what I did, so I can’t be upset. I’m just really excited for what outdoors is going to bring, that’s a much longer season than indoors and I’ll need to be consistent throughout the whole season. Hopefully, I’ll do my best at the World Championships in Budapest.”
Roberts won the men’s 60m hurdles in impressive fashion. His winning time of 7.39 was not only a personal best, but it was the second fastest time in the world this season behind Grant Holloway (7.38).
“I finish the indoor season with a personal record, so that’s a good hint for the outdoor season where I also aim to break my PB of 13.00,” Roberts told World Athletics after the race. “Let’s see what I can do at the World Championships.”
