Three of the best marathon runners in the world are set to toe the line at the 2023 Chicago Marathon that’s set to take place in October.

On Wednesday, it was officially announced that Ruth Chepngetich, Sifan Hassan and Emily Sisson will headline the women’s field for this year’s Chicago Marathon.

“The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is known for competitive elite races and 2023 will be no different,” the Marathon announced on Twitter. Announcing one of our strongest Women’s Fields yet: Chicago Marathon champion Ruth Chepngetich, London Marathon champion Sifan Hassan, and American Record Holder Emily Sisson!”

The Chicago Marathon proved to be good to Sisson last year, as the talented American runner broke the American record at the event with her time of 2:18.29, breaking Keira D’Amato’s record.

Hassan made her marathon debut at the London Marathon, and her first marathon was one to remember. She ran a blazing time of 2:18.33 to take the win and break the Dutch national record in the event. She will be competing in the marathon six weeks after the World Championships in Budapest.

Chepngetich of Kenya almost broke the women’s marathon world record last season with her remarkable winning performance of 2:14.18 at last year’s Chicago Marathon.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
