Sean McGorty had a great day in Belgium last Saturday.
He competed in the men’s 5000m at the Night of Athletics meet that was held in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium. While his 13:02.13 personal best time wasn’t fast enough for him to win the race, it was fast enough however, for him to earn the world standard time in the event, which will allow him to compete in the event at the World Championships in Budapest.

McGorty, who runs with the Bowerman Athletic Club, had a strong showing at the USATF Outdoor Championships, finishing third in the 5k and in the 10k. While he now has the standard in the 5k, he currently does not have the standard in the 10k.
One of the best races of the weekend took place in Silesia, Poland, in the women’s 100m. Sha’Carri Richardson edged out Shericka Jackson in the event, taking the win with her time 10.76 to Jackson’s 10.78.

Richardson used a late surge to sprint past Jackson to take the win in the event. Richardson’s season’s best in the event is 10.71, which she accomplished earlier in July at the USATF Outdoor Championships while Jackson still holds the world lead in the event, running 10.65 at the Jamaican Outdoor Championships.
