Last summer at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, Jamaican sprint sensation Shericka Jackson took second in the women’s 100 meters, earning her the silver medal in the event behind Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Her performance on Saturday showed that she’s ready to compete for the gold.
At the Velocity Fest track meet in Jamaica, Jackson ran a new world leading time of 10.82 in the 100m, which was her season opener in the event.
Last season, Jackson ran one of the fastest times in the world in the event at the Monaco Diamond League with her time of 10.71 second. Her winning performance at the meet also was a new personal best.
Jackson took the World Championships by storm, winning the women’s 200m with the second fastest time in history with her time of 21.45. Prior to emerging on to the scene in the 200m, she achieved success as a 400m runner, winning the bronze medal in the event in the 2015 and the 2019 World Championships, and winning the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Jackson also won the bronze medal in the women’s 100m at the Tokyo Olympics that took place in 2021.
I think she will be the next great Jamaican sprinter. Don’t know if we have an American who will consistently challenge her at big events.
