After an incredible season of collegiate track and field, the finalists for the prestigious Bowerman Award have finally been announced.

Julien Alfred of Texas, Britton Wilson of Arkansas and Jasmine Moore of Florida are the athletes who are finalists for the women’s Bowerman Award. For the men, Jaydon Hibbert of Arkansas, Leo Neugebauer of Texas and Kyle Garland of Georgia are the finalists.

Alfred of Texas took the track by storm and had an historic season for the Longhorns. She won indoor titles in the 100m and the 200m, and in the outdoor season, she won national titles in the 100m, 200m and 400m. She set two collegiate indoor records in the 60m, and the 200m respectively.

Wilson was must-see-TV for the Razorbacks every time she stepped onto the track. She won the indoor 400m title and broke the collegiate record in the event with her indoor seasons and personal best of 49.48s. In the outdoor season, she broke the collegiate record in the 400m with a sensational time of 49.13s. She also had the third fastest time in the collegiate season, running 53.23.

Moore proved to be the standard of success in the jumps this season for the Gators, and throughout her career. She won the indoor triple jump and long jump titles, while taking home the outdoor title in the triple jump. She set the indoor record in the triple jump (15.12m) and in the long jump (7.03m), while also setting the indoor record in the triple jump (14.78m).

Neugebauer had a fantastic season for the Longhorns, and it ended with a national championship in the decathlon. His score of 8863 broke the record in the event, and is No. 8 all-time.

Garland has been a force in the multi-events in his career for the Bulldogs, and this season was no different. He won the NCAA title in the heptathlon in the indoor season, breaking the collegiate record with his score of 6639. He also finished as the runner-up to Neugebauer in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Hibbert was nothing short of a freshman sensation for the Razorbacks. He won NCAA indoor and outdoor titles in the triple jump, and set the NCAA record for the indoor triple jump (17.54m) and in the outdoor triple jump (17.87m). He also did not lose a competition this season, and set the indoor and outdoor world U-20 record in the event.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
