Track and field fans won’t have to wait much longer to see one of the best athletes to ever grace the track open up her outdoor season.

The world record holder in the 400m hurdles is laying aside the barriers, and will run the open 400m at the Paris Diamond League meet that’s set to take place on June 9.

McLaughlin-Levrone was set to make her outdoor season debut at the LA Grand Prix this weekend, but pulled out of the race based on a decision by her coach, Bobby Kersee, which was confirmed by McLaughlin-Levrone via Ato Bolden on Twitter, as well as the Orange County Register.

“Regrettably, I won’t be competing in the LA Grand Prix due to my coach’s decision. I trust his judgment and will be cheering on my fellow athletes. Excited to see my fans! Thanks for your support.”

Kersee mentioned that she would focus on either the 400m, or the 400m hurdles at the World Championships this summer in Budapest, instead of competing in both events. The schedule at the championships are not conducive to double in both events, with the heats of the 400m hurdles taking place a couple of hours prior to the start of the 400m semifinals.

McLaughlin-Levrone’s personal best time in the 400m is 50.07, which she ran in 2018 as a member of the Kentucky Wildcats.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
