This year’s Boston Marathon is set to showcase some of the best talent in the women’s marathon field.

On Monday, the B.A.A announced the women’s field for the 127th running of the Boston Marathon, and it’s shaping to be one of the deepest fields in the history of the event, with over 9 women running sub 2:20 in the marathon, and 35 women in total running sub 2:30 in the event.

“Each year the B.A.A. welcomes strong, competitive, and talented fields to Hopkinton, with athletes ready to race for 26.2 miles,” said Mary Kate Shea, B.A.A. Director of Professional Athletes & Technical Support said in the press release. “This year’s field is among the fastest and most decorated professional fields in history, and we anticipate an exciting race from start to finish on Patriots’ Day.”

Amane Beriso of Ethiopia, along with Lonah Salpeter of Israel and Sharon Lokedi of Kenya are set to make their Boston Marathon debuts in April. Beriso has the fastest time in the entire field, with a personal best of 2:14:58, which is an Ethiopian National record. She ran that time back in December at the Valencia Marathon.

Ababel Yeshaneh of Ethiopia and Mary Ngugi of Kenya return to the race with the hopes of making the medal stand once again, as they previously did last season.

“I am very excited to run the B.A.A. Boston Marathon this year,” Salpeter said in the press release. “It has always been my dream to run these streets one day and to experience the incredible atmosphere. I am extremely grateful to the organization for inviting me to run in their city. For now, I am focused on my preparation and I look forward to seeing all the fans along the course in Boston!”

The Americans will be well-represented in the field as well. Sara Hall enters in the race as the fastest American runner with a personal best of 2:20.32, while Desiree Linden not only has the second fastest American time in the field with her time of 2:22.38, but she also won the Boston Marathon in 2018.

Other notable Americans who are set to line up in Boston include Laura Thweatt, Aliphine Tuliamuk, Emma Bates, Nell Rojas, Dakotah Lindwurm, Annie Frisbie, Sara Vaughn and Erika Kemp.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
