Another day, another record for Katelyn Tuohy, one of the best distance runners in college track and field history.

The talented runner from NC State competed against a very talented field in the 5000m at the Sound Running Track Fest last Saturday night in California. She ran a new personal best time of 15:03.12, which broke the collegiate outdoor record in the event that was previously held by Jenny Simpson.

This was the fourth collegiate record that Tuohy has broken so far this season.

Tuohy kicked off her season by breaking the NCAA record in the 1500 (4:06.49) en route to breaking the indoor mile record of 4:24.26 earlier this season. Both records were also held by Jenny Simpson, who set the aforementioned records while competing at the University of Colorado.

Tuohy also broke the 3000m indoor collegiate record with her time of 8:35.20 back in February at the Millrose Games that was held at the Armory in New York.

So far in her NC State career, Katelyn has won four national championships in track and field and cross country. She won the individual cross country title this season, and was a key piece in NC State’s back to back team championships.

I’m a sports journalist based in Florida and I’ve covered a couple of different sports so far early on in my career, but I love the sport of track and field and the art of running. Everyone has a story and everyone has a story worth telling. My prayer is that the stories of the great athletes of this sport are told, and that the sport grows to new creative heights, so that the sport gets the respect it deserves.
