If you missed the USATF Outdoor Championships recently, then you missed out on some must-see-TV action.
Granted, not everything was aired on television unfortunately. But that didn’t stop some of the best athletes in the world from putting on a show for the crowd who watched in-person, as well as from afar.
Nikki Hiltz left no stone unturned in a thrilling win in the women’s 1500m. She took the win after a late surge, running 4:03.10. Athing Mu showed that she’s a serious factor when it comes to the U.S. women’s 1500m with her time of 4:03.44, which was not only a personal best, but it also resulted in a second place finish. Mu will stick to the 800m at the World Championships in Budapest next month, meaning that 4th place finisher Sinclaire Johnson will take Mu’s spot in the event. Cory McGee finished in third place, running 4:03.48.
Elise Cranny was the star of the show when it came to the women’s 5000m and the women’s 10,000m. She won both events in impressive fashion with only a couple of days to recover between both events, and she also has the standard for both events. Her former Stanford teammate, Valarie Allman continued to show why she’s the best discus thrower in the world, as she won the event with her mark of 67.66m. Lagi-Tausaga-Collins finished as the runner-up in the women’s discus with her new personal best mark of 65.46m, which gave her the standard for Budapest in the event.
The men’s 100m was nothing short of sensational and exciting. Crayvont Charleston pulled off the upset in the event, winning the race with his 9.95 mark. He edged out Christian Coleman and Noah Lyles, who finished second and third respectively. On the women’s side, the 200m sent shockwaves throughout the world, as Gabby Thomas took home the win with a new personal best time and world leading time of 21.60 in the event. Prior to her performance, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson briefly held the world-leading time in the women’s 200m, running 21.71 at the Jamaican Outdoor Championships.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone continued to display brilliance on the track, running an incredible time of 48.74 in the women’s 400m, which gave her the win in the race. Her time was not only a new personal best and a new world lead, but it’s the second fastest time in American history behind Sanya Richards-Ross. Newly signed Adidas athletes Britton Wilson and Talitha Diggs finished in second and third place, respectively.
