One of the greatest and influential track and field athletes of all time received another honor from her alma mater.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the University of Southern California named the field at the Katherine B. Loker Track Stadium after Allyson Felix.
“When Allyson and I spoke about naming the field after her, she responded with the grace and humility she has shown throughout her life,” USC President Carol Folt said to USC News. “The Allyson Felix Field will recognize her immense achievements as a sports legend and Trojan — while also showing our admiration for her role as an entrepreneur, advocate and champion for women.”
While Felix didn’t run for the Trojans track and field team, she was a student at USC. She said that she grew up taking walks to the campus with her brother and grandmother.
“For me to be born and raised in Los Angeles and have such a history at USC, I am just completely humbled,” Felix said to USC News. “It’s such a huge honor to be a part of history in the campus, and it’s such a special place for me.”
Felix is the most decorated track and field athlete to lace up the spikes. She’s won 11 Olympic medals and 20 World Championship medals that span through various events. Off the track, she’s fought for a variety of causes, such as unequal contract negotiations, women’s rights and racial inequality among athletes of color.
She, along with her brother Wes also created her own footwear brand called Saysh in 2019.
